Firm represented an African American female staff member against her former employer for race discrimination and retaliation, in collective violation of Section 1981 of Title 42 of the Unites States Code, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended, the New York State Human Rights Law, and Section 740 of the New York Labor Law (“NYLL”); and (ii) unpaid overtime in violation of the Fair Labor Standards Act and the NYLL, as well as the failure to furnish an accurate wage statement on each payday in violation of Section 195(3) of the NYLL. After sending a demand letter and engaging in mediation, the Firm negotiated a settlement of $125,000.00. Alexander T. Coleman handled the matter for the Firm.
